In my book Scan, there are many different conflicts going on within the story. Here are a few.

Man vs. Society

In this book Tate is on the run from an evil alien race. They seem to be in control of everything, even the government. It seems like Tate is actually a minority. Tate has to use the strange things he knows to help him survive. He builds weapons out of ordinary objects and also uses his martial arts skills to escape his enemy on various occasions. This alien race looks hard to beat.

Man vs Man (Or woman I guess)

Tate has been having problems with his girlfriend because he finds out that she is actually an alien and he is not. It was unknown to both of them just a few days before, so she is upset that it matters to him, and he is just confused because he is one of the last humans alive. Their relationship becomes very tense throughout the book, however it is still clear that they like each other because both of them go out of their ways to help the other ones in tough situations, and Tate gets jealous. To solve his problem Tate tries to talk things out, wait things out, and just show affection in general. For the most part it does not seem to be working.

If I could insert myself as a character in this book, I would probably be an alien. I would not want to be a part of one of the crazy human families. I can see myself maybe being friends with Tate but he is kind of weird so I don't know. I would probably have an insignificant part in the story. Maybe I would die off quickly to serve a minor purpose. There are not many characters in the book that stay around very long. Most of them come and go, so that is probably the kind of character I would be.

If I predict what happens in this book, I would say that at least one of the main characters gets hurt or killed. The book seems to be building towards something sad, and I believe that killing off Tate's mom or just injuring his girlfriend would be good. The alien race will probably win in the end because this book does not look like it is going to have a happy ending. I believe that Tate will do something heroic and bring his character arc closer to being like his dad. I also believe that Tate and his girlfriend will fix their relationship by the end. This book will probably end on a cliffhanger.
